Not that the first couple games were great in that compartment, but Reach is definitely so much worse. On the other hand, the weapons feel much weaker, making the game much harder to start with and the campaign is incredibly boring and bad at story telling, which might be off putting to a new player. But as mentioned Reach uses Halo 2 engine & improvements (including weapons). The chronological order is okay, story wise. Some maps I switched between the graphics (TAB, btw) and could not tell which one was the updated one. A lot of VFX like the covenant shields or holograms are straight up worse and either barely see through or barely visible. They did not go with the original style, they just created something new and made them busy with a bunch of lines, which are supposed to add detail, but completely fail at that task as well. From what I noticed the updated graphics provide nicer lighting, but a lot of the VFX and especially a lot of the textures are worse or just "different". I played the original first two games & Reach (can't remember if I finished the latter back then), which I think came with Halo 2 IIRC. personally i think the best 2 options would be:ĬE, 2, 3 ODST, 3, Reach and 4. There will be a separate download for each one. Go into Steam's DLC section for MCC and check the boxes of the parts you want installed. When you first buy the game only Halo: Reach's campaign and multiplayer are downloaded. I think they're better off skipped until after Halo 4 because they make the pacing abruptly stop. They were made after Halo 4, added retroactively, and only show up as buttons when you use the Anniversary graphics. You can view these videos later in the main menu. In the original Xbox 360 & Xbox One versions they would unlock the video for viewing in a new app but now they just start playing the video instantly in the PC release. You should be aware that Halo CE Anniversary and Halo 2 Anniversary add "terminal" videos that you can watch mid-mission. I still prefer the original style (mostly for the old music which is tied to the old graphics in this game) but the new graphics are not a bad choice in any way. Halo 2's optional Anniversary graphics are very nice and do a far better job. I personally think the issue bigger than the Halo CE Anniversary graphics are the bugs that you may encounter. The new graphics are also over the old ones and don't affect the physics at all- meaning that you can sometimes think you're shooting an enemy when really you're shooting the edge of a wall. In the swamp part of the story they really don't match the tone that the original game set. The new graphics are pretty and look very nice in many places but have several problems ("maximalism" and re-using assets). In my opinion the remastered graphics for Halo CE do well in brightly lit areas and poorly fit in darker areas.
